What to expect from Women's Life in 2013

Hello SEBTS ladies!  Welcome to 2013!  Can you believe it's already here?

We hope each of you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas & are excited about the New Year.  Here in the Women's Life Office (WLO) we are thrilled that we're setting about another year of kingdom work!  We just love having the opportunity to minister to the women of SEBTS and are so excited to embark on another year of service.

We have some exciting things coming this year and are so pumped about them, we thought we'd go ahead & share them right now!  So, without further ado, we bring you:

"What you can expect from Women's Life in 2013."

1. Fabulous, Fun Fellowship:

The calendar for Spring 2013 is full of great events for our SEBTS ladies.  From cool projects to a self-defense class, we've got it all! Here's the breakdown:

Feb. 4th, Project: Captive
Connecting Point's (CP) first event of 2013, Project: Captive focuses on the tragic world of sex-trafficking and ways in which we can shine God's love into it's despairing darkness.  This event will look like no other Connecting Point before it, so come ready to do something different.  Red fingernail paint will be involved in this event...just thought you should know ;)

Feb. 23rd, Self-Defense Class
Taught by our very own Nathan Brown, we'll spend a few hours learning about the importance of safety for women and simple but effective ways to defend ourselves.  We'll be going to Sweet CeCe's afterwards for yummy desserts!

March 18th, Project: Compassion
At this CP event, we'll focus our energies on helping the hurting.  From writing cards and sending letters to developing care packages and hearing from actual families who have been going "through the ringer", we'll think through and learn ways in which we can be attentive to those around us who need that special touch.

College Girls Night with Mrs. Akin
The date is still TBD, but rumor has it that Mrs. Akin wants to set aside an evening to just spend with our SEBTS College girls!  If you're a seminary girl, don't worry...there's going to be a night for you too.  Keep your eyes on our FB page and this blog for more information!

May 6th, Project: Comission
Our final CP event of the year, we'll spend our evening helping our sisters going on the mission field prepare their hearts and spirits for such an incredible journey.  From intercessory prayer to old fashioned encouragement, we'll spend our time loving on and fellowshipping with our missionary girls.

2.  The Biblical Women's Institute:
For our BWI ladies, it's that time again...time to make sure you're registered for classes!  All of the information for this spring semester can be found here and you can always contact our office if you have any questions (womenslife@sebts.edu or 919.761.2340).  We've got some great classes lined up and our teachers are excited to see you ladies again!

3.  Introducing Semi-New Ministries:
We are so happy to announce that two of our (lesser known) ministries in the WLO have been revisited and re-vamped and are now up, running and ready for you to take advantage of.

LEAD{women}
Formerly known as Virtuous Pursuit, Ladies Engaging & Discipling Women is a program for female students who believe God is calling them into public teaching and speaking.  Through LEAD, SEBTS ladies get the opportunity to speak and teach in local church women's events - all while being mentored and trained by our office.  Students must apply to be on the LEAD team and must be in at least their second year of seminary studies.  If you're interested in applying or want more information, contact Carrie in the WLO at cgilliam@sebts.edu.

The Mentoring Program
Developed as a way to meet a recurring request by our students, the Mentoring Program includes several of our SEBTS Faculty wives who love our SEBTS girls and want nothing more than to be of service to them.
Mentors are available to meet both frequently or less often, depending on what you're looking for. Keep in mind, these ladies are not meant to take the place of mentors from the local church...so if your church has something like this already in place, this ministry is not for you.  If you're interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, shoot an email to the WLO & we'll get you the  4-1-1 :)

4.  The Blog

Our FB page and this blog are our primary ways of getting current information out to the SEBTS ladies.  This means that you can expect to see/read a little bit more from us in 2013.  Pretty soon, the blog is going to be taking on a whole new look that we're super excited about.  This should make it a bit more current and user friendly, so be on the look out for those changes!  Our goal for the content is to keep you up to date by posting several times a week.  We also want to have a little fun with the blog, so every Friday we're planning to host "Fun Fridays" with all sorts of entertaining content.  From link up challenges to cool things we've found, Fridays should be quite eventful!  Make sure to keep us on your radar by liking us on FB and following the blog!

5.  Bible Studies:
Our final announcement has to do with Bible Studies.  For a while we've been getting requests to offer Bible Studies for our ladies.  We've always hesitated because we never want to replace what you should be gleaning from your local church.  However, because we get this request so frequently and due to the overwhelming response from our recent survey, we've decided to finally entertain the idea of offering Bible studies!!  Now, this is just in the baby phase of planning...we've still got a few specifics to be worked out, but know that they're coming in this spring 2013 semester.

Whew...that's a lot of information, we know!  But we wanted to start the new year off with a bang, and this was our attempt!  Know that we are so grateful to be able to serve you and that we count it our joy to be able to work in an environment where our entire goal is to make you more complete in Christ.  We look forward to seeing and interacting with you all in this new year.  We know it'll be a good one!
